Building Entrepreneurship Development Systems

leave a comment »

Growing entrepreneurs will be a focal point in our 2009 efforts for Economic Development, as it has been in the past.  The Kellogg Foundation has a great report on the components of growing entrepreneurs in local communities here.  The foundation determined five key components that contribute to the growth of local entrepreneurs:

  • Entrepreneurship Education
  • Adult entrepreneurship training and technical assistance
  • Access to capital
  • Access to networks
  • Entrepreneurial culture

The study also identified three goals for developing robust e-ship systems: 1.) Create a pipeline of entrepreneurs, 2.) implement a system of financial and technical support, 3.) foster a supportive policy and cultural environment.

As we move forward with our 2009 Action Plan, we’ll look to see where gaps exist in our own local e-ship systems and seek to address those.  As for the Action Plan, we’ll be finalizing the draft in the next day or two and have it uploaded asap for your perusal.

A final comment on the Kellogg Report – one indicated success story of entreneurship systems was that of Nebraska’s Hometown Competitiveness Program, which Valley County served as the pilot community for.  Great things are happening right here in Ord and Valley County  – and folks are noticing.
