Happiness, Quality of Time and Freedom to Play

leave a comment »

dsc06372Yesterday we received a bit of great news about the Good Life: Nebraska is the happiest state as determined by financial stability.  I’ve seen a few folks criticize the report as incomplete in the assessment of what drives happiness in the first place.  I’d suggest that they think a bit harder the doors that financial security can open up.

Case in point – a new research movement is looking at the power of play and fun as derivatives for overall happiness, well-being, social aptitude and even professional competency.  Why is this important?  Time + financial security = healthy environments for play.  Maybe in Nebraska there’s more to our happiness than just financial security.  Maybe we have a built environment that allows for our lives to be healthier and happier.

Now I’ll take my existential hat off…
