It Really Pays to Buy or Fix Up a Home

with one comment

If you’re interested in buying or fixing up a house in Valley County, or know of someone who is, NOW IS THE TIME!!! There are several grant and loan programs that may help:

  1. Tax Credits. You can get up to $8,000 in tax credits when you buy a home.  You can receive tax credits on 10% of the purchase price, up to $8,000 provided you have not owned a home in the past 3 years.  Check with your accountant, but it may be possible for you to apply these credits onto your 2008 return, which means you could receive a check now!
  2. Down Payment Assistance. You can get up to $10,000 in a down payment assistance loan. The home must be located in Valley County or our surrounding counties. If income eligible, you can get a loan for 20% of the purchase price, up to $10,000, plus $2,000 in closing costs and $5,000 in minor rehab. Call Valley County Economic Development for application forms.
  3. Fix It. If you own a home in Ord that needs repairs you can get up to $25,000.  Provided you income qualify you could receive a loan or a grant up to $25,000, based on the needs of the home.

Application forms are available at the Ord City Office or Valley County Economic Development.

For more information call Valley County Economic Development at (308) 728-7875.

  1. Right now I am grateful to live in one of many “hud” rentals in Ord. Homeownership requires the ability to replace big ticket items such as furnaces, shingles, oven, and etc. Which I do not have.
