Strategic planning

Starting 1/20, both the boards of Valley County Economic Development and the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce will be meeting to jointly develop our 2010 program of work.  You can have a look at the plan that was set last year here, and what we actually accomplished here.

Why is this important?  In an age of open feedback, tabbed Gov 2.0, the public has a new communication mechanism with their community.  CNN reports on a trend that is emerging in Ord:

That may sound dull. But tech geeks transform banal local government spreadsheets about train schedules, complaint systems, potholes, street lamp repairs and city garbage into useful applications for mobile phones and the Web.

The aim is to let citizens report problems to their governments more easily and accurately; and to put public information, which otherwise may be buried in file cabinets and Excel files, at the fingertips of taxpayers.

While in Ord we don’t necessarily have the sophisticated systems big cities do, we do have access to our local government because they’re our neighbors.  Complaints are hard to not hear in a small town.  🙂

So think back to strategic planning.  I’d like to know of your input on 2010 for economic development.  What would you like to see our office tackle this next year? I’ll listen to ideas, complaints, name it.  Just be nice.
