leave a comment »

Ord’s own Evelyn Sharp, a pioneering aviatrix during WWII, was given the Congressional Gold Medal Award posthumously.  Lincoln’s 10/11 News has the details:

Sharp is now being honored, along with other Women Airforce Service Pilots, for her service with one of the highest awards, the Congressional Gold Medal. The award will be presented at the nation’s capital.

Another Nebraska woman who documented Sharp’s life in a book will be accepting the award in her honor. Diane Bartels wrote a biography on Sharp called “Sharpie: The Life Story of Evelyn Sharp”.

Bartels will be traveling to Washington Monday to accept the award for Sharp on Wednesday.
